Vedic astrology emphasises the Moon sign over the Sun sign, uses 27 Nakshatras (lunar mansions), and employs the Dasha system for timing life events — making it more precise for specific predictions about career, relationships, and major life changes.
A Kundli (Janam Kundali) is your Vedic astrology birth chart — a diagram showing the exact positions of the nine planets (Navagraha) across the 12 zodiac signs and 12 houses at the moment of your birth. It is calculated using your date, time, and place of birth, with the Lahiri ayanamsa applied to convert tropical positions to sidereal positions.
A Nakshatra is one of 27 lunar mansions in Vedic astrology, each spanning 13°20' of the zodiac. Your birth Nakshatra is determined by the Moon's exact position at your time of birth. The 27 Nakshatras are: Ashwini, Bharani, Krittika, Rohini, Mrigashira, Ardra, Punarvasu, Pushya, Ashlesha, Magha, Purva Phalguni, Uttara Phalguni, Hasta, Chitra, Swati, Vishakha, Anuradha, Jyeshtha, Mula, Purva Ashadha, Uttara Ashadha, Shravana, Dhanishtha, Shatabhisha, Purva Bhadrapada, Uttara Bhadrapada, and Revati.
A Mahadasha is a major planetary period in the Vedic astrology Vimshottari Dasha system. Each of the nine planets rules a period ranging from 6 years (Sun) to 20 years (Venus). The Mahadasha planet strongly colours your experiences during that time. Sub-periods within the Mahadasha (Antardasha and Pratyantar Dasha) provide more precise timing for specific events.
A reading is still possible without an exact birth time, but it will be less complete. Without the birth time, we cannot accurately determine your Lagna (ascendant) or house cusps. The reading will focus on Moon sign, Nakshatra, planetary positions, and Dasha periods — all of which are calculable from date and place alone. Providing even an approximate time (morning, afternoon, evening) improves accuracy.
